Maryam Nawaz to Distribute Laptops and Scholarships
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the Chief Minister Laptop and Honhar Scholarship Program, under which the students of Punjab will be provided with the latest Core i7, 13th generation laptops within 90 days. Under this scheme, 2,000 laptops have been allocated for minority students including Matriculation and F.Sc position holders. The students will also be given a guard of honor along with the laptops, and 20,000 university students, 14,000 college students, 4,000 technical and agricultural students, and 2,000 medical and dental students will be benefited under this scheme. 32 percent of students from South Punjab have also been included so that this facility reaches students from every region.
Under the Honhar Scholarship Program, 18,000 female students will be provided with full tuition fee for four to five years. 68,329 applications were received for scholarships, out of which 34,290 have been verified. Another significant achievement in the education sector of Punjab is the 15.5 percent additional enrollment, which is higher than the target, in public sector universities. In addition, the process of appointing vice-chancellors of 18 universities is underway, while the vacancy of one university will be re-advertised.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, Secretary Higher Education Dr. Farrukh Naveed and their team for ensuring transparency in the program. She vowed that 5,000 laptops would be provided to students in 30 days and 35,000 laptops by February 20. Students of Computer Science, Medical, Engineering, Social Sciences, Business, Languages, Veterinary, and Agriculture will benefit under this scheme, while 40,000 students of government and private educational institutions will be provided scholarships.
